-BIRTH TO AGE 6: Children in this period of time are naturally egocentric and self-centered both in action and in attitude. Having this is mind is very important in order not to bias or misunderstand what they do, and not to punish or condemn it.
Maria Montessori also observed that they go through different Sensitive Periods of interest in which they focus on a particular area of development (e. g. lining up things). Such devoted, single-minded dedication doesn't last long and disappears as abruptly as it started.
Finally, children have Absorvent Minds which, in spite of being incomplete and different from adults' minds, are capable of learning from contact with the environment through sensorial exploration.
Furthermore, children at this stage begin to reason (on a child's level, of course). They become really interested in binomials such as real/unreal, fair/unfair, good/evil, etc. And not only are they so intellectually stronger in comparison to the previous period, but they are also more energetic and physically healthier.
